Southwest Oasis Labrador Rescue is proud of its thorough adoption process that helps ensure that each dog in our care finds its perfect match!
As our rescue is 100% volunteer-run, we ask for your patience as we review your application and move it through our process.
All dogs are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, and microchipped prior to adoption.

The first step is to complete an adoption application and pay a $15 application fee. The adoption application is our way of learning more about you, your home, and your family so we can help you find the best dog for you.
Once your form and fee have been received, a volunteer from our Home Visit Team will be assigned to your application. Your assigned Home Visit Team member will work with you to schedule a home visit and interview.
The Home Visit team will contact your veterinary office to learn more about how you have cared for your pets.
We strongly prefer in-person home visits but may allow for a virtual home visit depending on the circumstances. The Home Visit Team Member will need to have a tour of your home and meet all members of the household at this time.
This is a great time to ask our team member any questions about the rescue, adoption process, and so on.
Once you become an Approved Adopter, you will receive the Paw-Print, which lists all of the available dogs and how to contact their foster to learn more about the dog and determine if you and your family are a match.
The Paw-Print is sent via email every Tuesday and Friday. We occasionally have a special edition that is sent out, often for puppies.
When you see a dog you are interested in, contact the foster family to see if you and the dog are a match!
If the foster feels that it is a match, they will work with you to arrange a time for a meet and greet. Sometimes it may take more than one meet and greet!
Meet and Greets typically take an hour and take place at the foster's home. This is the potential adopter's opportunity to interact with the dog, ask questions to the foster, and get a better feel for who the dog is.
We require all members of the household to be present for the Meet and Greet. If for some reason not all members can be present, this must be discussed beforehand with the dog's foster.
We ask adopters to wait 24 hours after meeting the dog before making decisions. We know our dogs are cute and can wiggle their way into your heart quickly!
Then, you and the dog's foster family can determine if it is a perfect match. If everyone agrees, you will work with the foster to bring your new family member home.
Once you've made the decision to adopt, the foster will help you complete the adoption contract.
All adults living in the household will need to be present and sign the contract.
At this time, you will pay the adoption fee. Check is preferred but we have digital payment options available.
Once the contract has been completed and signed and adoption fee has been received, the dog is now the newest member of your family!
Your dog's foster or another SOLR volunteer will reach out after adoption to check-in to see how your dog is adjusting to its new home.
If there are any concerns or questions, SOLR will do its best to answer, provide resources and guidance, and so forth to ensure a successful adoption!
